I never understood why the movie “A Christmas Story” was such a big holiday tradition. After watching the musical it will now become my favorite holiday tradition. I was completely blown away by how well this musical was produced. Everything from the lights, music, acting and stage design was executed perfectly. I loved how the lighting was controlled to create special moments throughout the musical. The actors movements were timed perfectly with the lights and music to where almost every movement they made had a light flash or cymbal smash along with it.
As I was headed to my car I caught myself singing one of the catchy songs from the production. I was also happy with the length of the performance. The director seemed to have trimmed just enough out of the original version without taking away from the storyline. I was even surprised to see how they were able to portray one of my favorite scenes, were Ralphie was imagining what his life would be like with the famous Red Rider BB gun. The scene was perfectly portrayed as I remembered it from the movie and the actor of Ralphie set the scene as if we were looking into his imagination.
I would recommend this musical to the entire family as it got me into the Christmas spirit. I noticed many children in the audience and the production is family friendly. They even removed a few curse words I remembered from the original movie. If the musical seems to loose the younger children at any time, the dogs that run across the stage will surely regain their attention.
