Green (Monster) Smoothies

I have to be real creative with veggies for my kiddos to eat them. I serve broccoli pretty much by the head, they think it’s so funny that it’s so big that they eat it! Boys. I have tried to grill, saute, and roast. They will try the obligatory “thanks but no thanks” bite, but that’s about as far as it goes. I have to admit that the Mr. isn’t much better. Baby carrots are about it. Again…boys!

Then came along the wonderful green smoothie! Basically a green smoothie is a wonderfully healthy drink full of green leafy veggies and some fruit. My kids love it so much they ask for it! I even call them green “monster” smoothies and make them growl at me, like a monster ;), before I pass them out!

At first I made mine with yogurt, but now I just add water, maybe juice, kale and fruit! So healthy and so sweet!

My blender isn’t the greatest but for now it works just fine. I do like my smoothies to be more “runny” than “icy” and if I didn’t use frozen fruit, or if I had a Blendtec
or Vitamix, I am sure they would be that way. The icy consistency isn’t too bad, just really cold, and when I stir it a bit and let it melt…perfect! πŸ™‚

Bottoms up!

Here are some more delicious green smoothie recipes!
You can really throw just about anything in the blender, as along as there are some green leafy veggies and some fruit!

To start, always add a big ‘ole handful of kale or spinach or both. πŸ™‚
And enough water to make it the consistency you want. I usually use about a cup or so.

Tropical Smoothie
1 or 2 bananas
1 cup of pinapple chuncks
1 mango
a few drops of wild orange essential oil (optional but delicious!)

Berries a plenty
1/2 cup black berries
1/2 cup raspberries
1/2 cup of blueberries
a few drops of lime essential oil

Yumm-o Fruit Dump (these are the fruits that I usually have in the house, so I just throw them all in) πŸ™‚
1/2 cup of strawberries
an apple
a banana
1/2 cup of blueberries
a few drops of lemon oil (my favorite oil so far!)
