Taking Care of Dermatological Problems Occurring Due to Kidney Disease

0

When kidney disease presents itself in the form of skin problems, a dermatologist from leading edge dermatology may be consulted instead of a nephrologist in order to diagnose and treat the condition. It can be difficult and detrimental to an individual’s quality of life to keep some skin problems under control.

If you have renal disease and are experiencing skin problems, in addition to contacting a dermatologist who is board-certified in their field, there are a number of different actions you can take to address these symptoms. These actions can be taken in addition to consulting a dermatologist. Several examples of these are as follows:

  1. Remember to hydrate your skin on a consistent basis. You may assist in maintaining the moisture level of your skin by using a moisturizer that does not contain any fragrance. This, in turn, will prevent irritation and dryness from occurring on your skin.
  2. Keep your distance from the hot water. You should use lukewarm water in the shower or bath rather than hot water because it can cause the skin to dry out even further.
  3. Utilize a humidifier when you can. Adding moisture to the air with the help of a humidifier in a dry environment can reduce feelings of dryness and irritation in their skin. If you live in a typically dry area, you should consider investing in a humidifier.
  4. Avoid getting your skin scratched. It is quite tempting to give in to the need to scratch irritated skin, but doing so puts you at risk for more injury and may even cause an infection to develop. You could also try applying a cold compress to the skin or having an oatmeal bath in order to soothe it. Both of these treatments are alternatives.
  5. Have a talk with your family doctor or other primary care provider about it. If you have a kidney condition and are experiencing skin issues, it is extremely important that you speak with a qualified medical expert. In order to get your symptoms under control, they may be able to write you a prescription for medication or suggest alternative treatments that you could try.

Kidney disease has the potential to have a significant impact on the appearance of the patient’s skin. By taking action to alleviate these symptoms, you can improve not only your level of overall comfort but also the quality of your life.
